Internal medicine is a medical specialty which focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of nonsurgical conditions in your pets. This means we are able to diagnose, treat, and prevent diseases that can affect the heart and lungs, the endocrine system, the immune system, infectious biological diseases like viruses, blood, the digestive tract, the liver, the kidneys, and more.
We have an in house laboratory, X-ray machine, outside laboratory services, and specialists that we can consult with about your pet when necessary.
Managing your pet’s pain is one of our highest priorities. Notions that pets don’t feel pain or ‘need’ the discomfort to keep them quiet are universally accepted as outdated and incorrect. It has been shown that pain impairs healing and is inhumane. We place utmost importance on your pet’s comfort and well being. Allowing an animal to suffer in pain is, in our view, unethical.
Fortunately, with modern medicine and practices, we have many strategies for controlling pain. Many of these methods are included in the cost of routine surgical procedures. All of these methods are considered for every case, every time. Although they have been proven as very safe and beneficial for our patients, some of these medications do carry risks. We will discuss these with you and help you weigh the risks verses the potential reward regarding your pet’s health and longevity.
Oncology – Cancer
The word that no pet owner ever wants to hear…cancer. Pets with cancer have very special needs and we will strive to provide comfort and relief until it is time to say goodbye. We provide surgery, chemotherapy and natural therapy to help your pet fight back! We believe that helping your pet deal with cancer is our way of giving owners more quality time to spend with their beloved pet.
Our in-house pharmacy accommodates most requests and is able to provide most veterinary medications. Should we not be able to provide the medication that your pet needs, we will gladly assist in obtaining this prescription for you.
Our veterinarian has access to a diverse group of highly skilled specialists who are available should a difficult case present itself.
Changes in a pet’s behavior are frustrating to the owner and places unnecessary strain on the bond you enjoy with your pet. A detailed consultation with our doctor is the best start in determining causes and solutions when dealing with unwanted behavior.
The choice to bring an animal into our homes is a LONG TERM commitment. Trusted council with an experienced and thoughtful doctor is an excellent starting point. The time invested in discussion prior to pet selection can be invaluable over the long term. Every one of our staff members has an in-depth knowledge of animals and have unique insights into appropriate lifestyle and animal choices.
For some pets a trip to the veterinarian can often be a traumatic event. We understand this and offer clients the opportunity to see pets in their own environment. Afternoons are the preferred time for our doctor to make house calls.
